DESIGN

• The dimensions are based on the shape of the BOP.

• The simulation is tested at 100,000 lbf. 

• Beams were changed from W6X25 to W8X40 to redirect force from the plates to the increased stiffness of the beam.

• The top of the slot for the hooks is increased to compensate the increase stress from the increased load.

RESULTS

The maximum stress exerts 1.809E4 psi which gives a safety factor of 2.82 at 100,000 lbf and 4.7 at 60,000lbf (closer to the actual weight of the BOP). Thus, this design is a safe working design.
